suggestions on what to wear
LOWER BODY
Insulated active pants i.e. CRAFT cross-country ski pants. Anything that is warm but also breathable. Also consider good wind blocking material.
Lightweight long johns if you get cold in the thighs or rear
Chamois bike shorts (optional).
Wool socks. Jamming too many socks inside the shoe can block air flow and then lead to cold feet. But we have NEOS overshoes which help keep feet warm and dry.
UPPER BODY
Wool baselayer
Long sleeve thermal bike jersey or mid weight fleece
Breathable windbreaker, i.e. Patagonia Houdini jacket or something similar to that weight
Micro puff jacket (This is a good layer to start with and when you get warm, you take it off and pack it on bike.)
Skull cap under the helmet, good coverage for ears
Neck tube or balaclava
Light weight and midweight gloves (we provide pogies, so that helps insulate and block wind). If you have a good heavy duty pair of gloves, bring that too. Sometimes people prefer their glove system over the pogies.
Weather
Though we can not predict the weather, we can be prepared. Even on the sunniest of days weather can come in quick. Bring your layers and a pair of liner gloves to keep you warm during the ride.
